Banbury Rugby Club was founded in 1925 and has gone on to become the most go-ahead rugby club in the region. Based at Bodicote Park on the Oxford Road, the Club has over 100 active senior players and over 450 boys and girls playing aged from 5 to 18 years old. Many other Club Members simply enjoy the lively social scene as supporters and parents.
Banbury’s 1st XV – the famous ‘Banbury Bulls’ – currently play in the Midlands Two West (South) League, the seventh tier of Rugby Union in England. Head Coach James Kerr is consolidating the Club’s position before pushing for promotion. The Banbury Guardian and Oxford Mail newspapers carry extensive weekly ‘Bulls’ match reports both in print and online, as does Touch FM radio.
Banbury’s Youth Section is consistently the highest achiever amongst its Oxfordshire clubs peer-group as this montage of last season’s honours ably demonstrates. Under the leadership of Youth Chairman Chris White the Club has earned a reputation for exceptional player and coaching development, and as a feeder to both County sides and professional clubs.
Under the Chairmanship of Mr Colin Fairbrother, Banbury Rugby Club has plans to complement its unrivalled playing facilities with social amenities to match. The Club possesses six full-sized pitches – two of which are floodlit and one of which boasts a 300-seat grandstand – plus three dedicated youth pitches.
With high-quality changing facilities, plus a convivial bar and ‘temporary’ Club House, Banbury has an enviable track-record of hosting events from England Ladies matches, Daily Mail Cup semi-finals, Northampton Saints rugby academies, plus of course County and Club youth tournaments. Bodicote Park also enjoys substantial parking on both tarmac and grass with easy access from the North and South. The site can also be used for other large events with ample space for marquees.
