We extend a very warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters of Pinley RFC for Saturday's Midlands Two West (South) league fixture.

As far as we are aware this will be the first time that we have met one another, certainly at 1st team level. Having gained promotion last season Pinley have adapted very well in a higher league and are one of the five sides who have pulled well clear of the other sides in the league.

A notable victory was over Malvern, whilst two of their three losses were against league leaders, Old Laurentians and Newbold, and we are sure Saturday's game will be very competitive.

In the programme for our last game at home there was a notable first in that 100% success was achieved with our league results forecast for the first time. Basking in the glow of that success we will review this afternoon's games which signal the end of the first round of matches.

Few of the games seem clear cut and we could end up with egg on our face, but here goes. Droitwich v Old Yardleians - Since beating Pinley in the first game of the season Droitwich have struggled somewhat but a good away win last week at Old Leams should give them confidence against an Old Yardleians side who were well beaten by Banbury last week - home win but by a narrow margin. Leamington v Old Leamingtonians - A local derby between two sides not having the best of seasons in which we think home advantage will be crucial - home win but again expect a close game.

Malvern v Old Laurentians - A top of the table clash with Old Laurentians looking to maintain their season long unbeaten run. It would help Banbury if Malvern won and with home advantage we think that they may just. Another home win and another narrow margin. Newbold v Old Coventrians - We see nothing but a very heavy beating for Old Coventrians against a Newbold side who have wracked up 164 points in their last three games. Spartans v Nuneaton Old Eds - Two sides who are having mixed seasons but again home advantage could count and we go for another home win. The only foregone conclusion would seem to be Newbold against Old Covs the rest could go either way!!

We are very grateful to the Jolly Boys for sponsoring Saturday's game and providing the pre-match buffet. Quite who the Jolly Boys are and how one becomes a Jolly Boy are surrounded in myth and mystery, and perhaps it should remain so, but we are very grateful to Monty and his merry band for all the support that they give the Club.

Accordingly we thought that it might be appropriate to look back at some of the deeds of chief Jolly Boy, Monty, and desperately searching the archives the first time we come across his name was in scoring a try for the 2nd team at the end of the 1989/90 season in a game lost 7-11 to Wigston.

Although a "M. Montyneagar" did appear as a tryscorer earlier in the season against Brackley. A try for the 1st team came in a game against Evesham in the 1991/2 season. The 93/4 season was memorable for a brace of tries for the 3rds against Windsor and also two conversions during the season and in the following season Monty topped the try scorers for the 3rds with a magnificent six. Much more was to follow but more of that another day. Still enough reminiscing, and we are sure more tales will be told in the bar before and after the game.

All being well we should have three teams out on Saturday and it's particularly encouraging that the 2nds are enjoying a very successful run with a largely young side and congratulations to Colt, Tom Arnold, for his hat-trick against Southam last week.

As ever the Mini and Junior sections are flourishing and with the new clubhouse beginning to take shape the Club has much to look forward to.

As always we welcome everyone to Bodicote Park and trust there will be plenty of good rugby to be enjoyed by the players, referees and spectators alike.
