Wasps Touch Competition

With a handful of players being unable to make the competition in Coventry meaning Banbury had only 8 men for the competition. Fortunately, Banbury were able to keep their heads going into the first game against Wasps Touch Rugby with Dan “Fingers” Murphy scoring a lovely break away touchdown but nearly concussing himself by sliding into the fence. Banbury kept on the pressure with further touchdowns coming from Mark Roberts, Callum O’Shea, Jason McLeod and another for Dan “Fingers” Murphy. Banbury were victorious in the first game 5-2 and confidence was high going into game 2 against the Lighthall Lobsters Touch Rugby. With Banbury’s confidence running high following their first victory, touchdowns kept coming from Banbury with Callum, Jason and Pete all getting a touchdown and Mark Roberts getting a double. This allowed Banbury to continue in their victorious ways with a 5-1 win going into the replay against Wasps Touch Rugby. Banbury were able to keep up their form allowing Mark, Callum and Pete to get onto the score sheet leading to a strong 3-0 win and Banbury were able to go into their last game with the hope of an undefeated day in Coventry. The final game was against a mixture of both Wasps Touch and Lighthall Lobsters. This was a much more difficult game for Banbury but with excellent defensive displays from a tiring Banbury team allowed another clean sheet for Banbury with both Callum and Pete getting onto the score sheet with the final game ending 2-0 and allowing Banbury to go undefeated in Coventry. Captain Zack Neville following the game said “Wasps were really accommodating and both teams were really up for the tournament. We played well, both in defence and attack reducing the amount of wasted possession through silly handling errors. All of the boys played well and should really be proud of their efforts today.” The Banbury captain continued to name Pete Burke as Banbury’s MVP of the tournament adding “Pete played well in a position that I gave him and managed to excel, both scoring and setting up the other boys to score he was able to shine.”
