United fought back in the second half to earn a point against league leaders Milton Keynes City at the Spencer Stadium this afternoon.

Milton Keynes started the better of the two sides and it was no surprise when they went in front after 11 minutes, a visiting player making a surging run down the left and beating the Banbury defence for pace before neatly finishing past Amy Bourton from six yards into the top corner of the net.

Milton Keynes would dominate the remainder of the first half and it took a couple of excellent saves from Bourton to keep the deficit to a single goal at the break. Banbury for their part never looked like troubling the visiting custodian.

Banbury were though much improved after the interval. For the first time in the game they looked promising going forward. This did leave them exposed more at the back and the game thus became much more open and entertaining.

United got the reward for their endeavours with a deserved equaliser in the 69th minute when Jenny Hoggins fed the ball through to Catherine Howse who collecting the ball on the edge of the Milton Keynes penalty area then took the ball around the goalkeeper before planting it into the empty net.

Either side could have won the game in the last 20 minutes as both sides looked for the winner but with no further goals it remained 1-1.

Banbury United: Amy Bourton, Abi Smith, Jenny Hoggins, Jenna O'Neil, Sarah Rhind, Shania Phipps, Alex Ayckbourn, Catherine Howse, Chloe Stallwood, Josie Clark, Lacey Walton. Subs (used): Melanie McLeod, Laura Newman, Nicole Little, Nicky Isted.
