Chesham United are the visitors to the Spencer Stadium tomorrow afternoon (Saturday) for a Southern League Premier Division game.

Our visitors tomorrow afternoon have been one of the most consistent sides in the Premier Division over the course of the last three seasons, reaching the play-offs on each occasion although success in those end of season lotteries has thus far eluded them.

This season Chesham’s away form has been impressive with victories at Truro City. Slough Town, St Neots Town, Arlesey Town and Biggleswade Town. However, it is their home form which has rather let them down as five sides have left the Meadow with all three points. Nevertheless, they currently sit in tenth place, close enough to the top five that a run of good results will see them challenging for a play-off place once again.

Our recent record against Chesham is not good. They did the league double over Banbury in both seasons 2011/12 and 2012/13 and who can forget what happened last season – well Banbury supporters certainly wish they could! After getting an 8-0 hammering at the Meadow in early February we then, just over two weeks later, lost to them 4-0 at the Spencer Stadium! I think we lost that one on aggregate!

One bonus for Banbury is that Chesham will tomorrow be without 37 year-old defender Darren Purse, veteran of a total of over 500 Football League appearances for Birmingham City, West Bromwich Albion, Cardiff City and Oxford United who is suspended. There will however be plenty of experience in the Chesham side tomorrow which is likely to include long serving goalkeeper Shane Gore, ex Crystal Palace striker Simon Thomas and ex Hemel Hempstead Town winger Dave Pearce, the last named unfortunately is rather quicker (these days anyway!) than our esteemed matchday announcer with the same name!

For Banbury, Callum White is ill and there are doubts over the fitness of Oxford United loanee AJ George.
