Four games and United still in search for their first points of the season

This was a game that Banbury showed some promise in the opening ten minutes. In the second minute a low cross from the right by Shepherd Murombedzi was met at the near post by Saleem Masri but the striker’s shot from ten yards went wide. In the 10th minute good work by Darius Browne on the left ended with his cross causing havoc in the Hereford penalty area but there was no Banbury player able to take advantage.

However, after this initial period of play the next thirty minutes was very uneventful and scrappy. Both sides kept giving the ball away with no chances created and the goalkeepers having no saves of any note to make.

Banbury’s best move of the first half would come in the final minute when a good series of passes down the right involving Masri, Odunayo Oke and Murombedzi ended with Browne shooting wide from just inside the penalty area on the left.

Both teams looked livelier at the start of the second half. Three minutes in and Josh Hill in the Banbury goal had to be sharp to come out and just get to a through ball ahead of a Hereford forward. Then in the 54th minute Murombedzi had a great chance to open the scoring for Banbury when he was put through but with just the goalkeeper to beat he shot straight at the custodian as he came out to narrow the angle.

Hereford proceeded now to have the better of the exchanges. Winger Bilal Yafai took the ball inside from the right but shot straight at Hill. Then on the hour mark Javia Roberts had an excellent chance to put Hereford ahead but after rounding a defender and the goalkeeper he then from the edge off the penalty area and with the goal seemingly at his mercy put his shot wide. This was only a short reprieve for Banbury though as in the 63rd minute a Roberts cross from the right was smashed home from six yards by Deqwon Eubanks.

Though Hereford now looked the better side, Banbury had a glorious chance to equalise in the 83rd minute when Jordan Adekunle went on a storming run through the middle but after doing all the hard work by getting the better of a couple of defenders and with just the goalkeeper to beat he managed to shoot wide.

Banbury pushed players forward in search of an equaliser towards the end of the game but the nearest to a further goal would come Hereford’s way two minutes from time when a fierce shot from Samuel Akinde looked bound for the top of the net before Hill superbly tipped the ball over the bar for a corner.

There was not a lot between these two sides. The first half was an awful advert for Southern League football but to be fair both sides improved after the break. It is though now four losses from four games for United.
