A depleted United side go down 3-0 at Histon

With Tom Ryan suspended and both Joel Meade and Jack Westbrook ill, and Ade Talabi struggling with a shoulder injury it was a much changed United side, with several having to play out of position, that started this game.

Histon made a lively start and put Banbury under early pressure. After just three minutes Mateusz Kuzimski lofted the ball over Leigh Bedwell from the edge of the penalty are, only to be unfortunate to see the ball hit the crossbar and then go over. On 11 minutes Tye Phillips shot just over from the edge of the area.

Having survived the early pressure, Banbury worked their way into the game and it became more even. The home side though still looked the more likely to make the breakthrough and on 28 minutes they duly did so. Histon broke quickly from a Banbury attack and a good passing move ended with Nick Freeman crossing low from the right into the centre where Phillips struck the ball home from 15 yards.

Banbury made a decent response to going behind and had a good spell in the last five minutes of the half with Jordan Green in particular causing Histon problems but as with earlier in this period there was no finished product to some promising build up.

Histon though began the second half well on top and it was no surprise when it became 2-0 in the 57th minute, Evan Key prodding the bouncing ball home from close in after it had been knocked into the penalty area from the right.

Though Banbury continued to battle away throughout the second half and never gave up, they were unable to ask any serious questions of the home custodian.

Histon would make it 3-0 five minutes from time through a 25 yard strike from Salim Relizani. It looked initially that Bedwell had managed to palm the ball over the bar but the ball came down just under the bar and into the back of the net.
