This afternoon saw Banbury United Ladies come back from the Rover Sports and Social Club ground at Roman Way, Cowley with an impressive and convincing 4-0 Jubilee Cup victory over Oxford United Ladies Reserves.

It appeared to be a daunting task for Banbury, taking on a side that had only lost two league games all season, and both those against Division One South Champions Basingstoke Town. However, Banbury did Division One North proud, putting in an excellent display to come away with a most convincing 4-0 win and significantly boosting their chances of qualifying for the knock-out stages of the competition.

A goal midway through the first half from Josie Clark (pictured below) gave Banbury a first half lead. Three goals in the first twenty minutes of the second half sealed the win, the goals coming from Sophie Veitch, Josie Clark (her second of the game) and finally a Jenny Hoggins penalty after Rochelle Buick had been brought down.

With this convincing away win against a much fancied side, Banbury United Ladies must now have every chance of making progress through this Jubilee Cup qualifying group and to the knock out stages. It is now a two week break from this competition though and next week sees United Ladies entertain fellow Division One North side City Belles at the Spencer Stadium in the Chairman’s Cup, a supplementary cup competition for clubs knocked out in the first two rounds of the main League Cup. Kick-off 2-00pm.
