A goal from Nic Evangelinos half way through the second half earns United all three points at Weymouth.

It was a goalless but entertaining first half with both sides creating chances. For Banbury In the 11th minute a free-kick wide on the left taken by Nic Evangelinos went through to the far post where Marcus Green coming in hit the side netting. After 20 minutes Anderson Pinto was given time by the Weymouth defence to shoot from a central position just outside the penalty area and he was very unfortunate to see his shot smash against the post. On 38 minutes an Evangelinos free-kick from 22 yards was tipped around the post by Weymouth goalkeeper Jason Matthews low down to his right.

Weymouth had chances in the first half, in fact better ones than Banbury but some superb goalkeeping from Wolves loanee Scott Dutton who made at least three top class saves along with some last ditch defending kept Banbury on level terms.

Weymouth had much the better of the first twenty minutes of the second half. In the 57th minute Isaac Vessell had a glorious chance to score with a one-on-one against Dutton but somehow he managed to put the ball wide when a goal seemed certain.

However.it would be Banbury who would break the deadlock in the 67th minute when Evangelinos picked up the ball just outside the penalty area on the right before shaking off a defender by cutting inside towards the goal and then striking a low shot from the edge of the area right into the bottom corner of the net.

Four minutes later and Weymouth came really close to equalising when some less than impressive defending saw a lob from an Isaac Vessell wide on the right over the stranded Dutton hit the crossbar before going over.

Banbury were put under heavy pressure in the last 15 minutes but a mixture of poor finishing and excellent defending kept Weymouth out.

Weymouth will probably feel that this was a game they were unlucky not to have won but Banbury defended very well showing great character and determination and this was without doubt their best performance for some time. Finally a special mention to Banbury goalkeeper Scott Dutton who was outstanding on the night.
