Banff RFC men go top of the league after a nail biting last round, only just losing out to Highland 2nd XV.

After a long bus journey for players and supporters, the game was finally underhand. Highland found themselves with possession and came away with an early try after an unlucky bounce from a kick came back right into the hands of the chaser. This was not converted. For the following twenty minutes no points were scored either way, until the ball went wide to outside centre Connor Riddell who stepped his way around a multitude of green and red shirts to get the first Banff points on the board. Gordon Robertson with a great kick through the posts. Highland hit right back after this and used their quick hands to get two tries, however neither conversion went through. It was then Banff who put points on the board next. A penalty right in front of the posts allowed prop Rob Bruce to crash over the line, and then he came back again after a great break from Robertson to set him up. Both of these tries were converted, presenting a half time score of 15 - 21 to Banff.

Highland seemed to be in control during most of the second half, coming away with two tries after sending the ball wide and a well read intercept. The pressure was put on Banff even more after a successful conversion and then a penalty later on, meaning they would need two tries in order to win. The last fifteen minutes of the game were very nerve wracking for all from Banff, as the team tried with all they could to get over the whitewash. As the opportunities dwindled down, the fear of just losing out on promotion started to come forward. Only one try was needed to secure the top of the league spot with title rivals Garioch close behind, but time was running out and the previous three attempts had been spoiled. Then, as if by magic, flanker Nico Clark came forward with his explosive power and drove his way over the line, and the sidelines exploded. Despite a missed conversion, BT Caledonia League Division 2 North (Top) had been won. Full time score: 30 - 26 to Highland 2nd XV.
Banff RFC's season is now over, but there are still events in the calendar. The annual sevens tournament takes place on Saturday 29th for both women and men, and the women's team have their last game of the season away against Orkney ladies.
