God bless the Spectator! A few weeks ago their regular 'That was the week that was...' focused on March 24th 1967, and one of the featured photographs was of the newly formed ladies section.
The caption reads, "Bangor Rugby Club's fundraising efforts for new grounds and accommodation received some very welcome help from the recently formed ladies section. Here members of the committee vet plans for next Tuesday's dance at the New Mount Royal. From left (standing) - Mrs D Burns, Mrs T Corbett, Mrs R Boston, Mrs I McGowan, Mrs A Robinson (chairman). Seated - Mrs D Gorman, Mrs J Upritchard, Mrs W Trimble and Mrs J Cutler."
This sparked a chord with Mrs Marie Robinson and soon plans were underway for an event at Upritchard Park on Thursday 7th September to celebrate the ladies' efforts 50 years ago.
There are already a large number of ladies who plan to attend, but for anybody else who would like to share in this event, and maybe learn a little of how fundraising was approached all those years ago, you would be made most welcome. The evening will comprise a buffet meal, entertainment organised by Ashley Armstrong (!), and plenty of reminiscences of life at Bangor Rugby Club in the early days of Upritchard Park. There will be a reception at 7:00pm followed by the meal at 7:30pm.
