Tough Opener Away To Top Four Side Haydock

Bank Quay open their league campaign on Saturday against last seasons top four side Haydock away 2:30 kick off.

Read below the article from new head coach Carl Turner:

Bank Quay boss Carl Turner says he is excited to pick up the reigns and coach his former team in the North West Men’s League Premier Divison this season.

Turner, whose side begin their season on Saturday, admitted his pride in getting the job allowing him to work with the Warrington-based club once again.

"It's exciting for me as a former Bank Quay player to be asked to step in," he admitted.

"It's a privilege to be asked to get involved again, this time as a coach as that is something I enjoy.

"The players have been really receptive to me and have worked hard in training.

"It's a bit of a learning curve because there are still some players there who I've played alongside but there's some good youngsters coming through as well."

Turner knows the club are building a strong squad, a point emphasised by having two players selected in the NWML Lionhearts tour to Canada.

He said: "It's a big building experience for us at the minute as last year we probably weren't as good as we thought we were going to be.

"We've got a few players back from the professional ranks now and are building a good U18's squad to bring in young players.

"Ryan Brown is one of those players for the future and has been recognised in the North West squad for the Canada tour.

"Also included is Kiel (Hillman), one of our more experienced players which shows that we have a diverse squad."

Bank Quay begin with a visit to Haydock and Turner is expecting a well-matched clash against a team he feels are in a similar situation.

"Haydock have a very young and enthusiastic team from what I've been told," he added.

"Again, they're also building for the future so we should be relatively well matched.

"We're just really looking forward to the hit-out this Saturday and we want to start the season with a good result."
