Bare Pirates trugde through to the cup semies
Bare beat title contenders in the league cup with some good individual performances
I don't know what happened at the start but I'm told Bare won the toss and bowled on an overcast Sunday after been called off yesterday away at Coniston due to rain in the league. Bare openers were expensive and should have been fined if one of them decided to stay behind!!! First change bowlers were tight but Penrith 2s find themselves 61/0 off 10, a good spring board for the second half of there innings. A fantastic tight spell from Almond (2/13) saw him remove both openers, after they added 71, Marshall (16) and Burgess (46) and steady the rate. It took a good run out from the experienced Ottuberly to stop Spurnell (33). Burrow (1/21) taking the next wicket with a catch from the late Chef and a good second spell from Schweppsy (1/20) with a great stumping from Nev (just because DK was watching!) saw Penrith's innings stall. Winspear (10) the only other contribution as Penrith ended on 121/5 when Bare looked to be chasing 150 at one point.
Bare got off on the rate as Sharman (12) got started but was bowled by first change bowler Marshall (1/21). The youthful Penrith team bowled good line and length but Burrow was getting his eye in and at 63/1 off 10 overs, the game was evenly matched. White (18) played a good anchor roll in a 70 partnership until M.Winspear (1/27) bowled the secret lemonade drinker. Burrow passed 50 then was putting the ball directly into gardens. He ended up 75 not out aided by Archy (2 not out) as Bare won with 16 balls to spare. A great victory and a nice tea afterwards too. Shireshead 'A' next week at home in the league as Bare await to see who they draw in the semi-finals.
Bare CC also hope for a speedy recovery to Lee Moorhouse and Barry Smith who are ruled out for the rest of the season with injuries. Right off to watch Brazil draw against the Suiss!
