No rain just 15 points
Bare bounce back after no game in 4 with a good victory away at Coniston
After numerous weeks of rained off games, we arrived at Coniston as both teams had depleted teams. Coniston won the toss and elected to bowl on a drying wicket that had a lot in it for the bowlers. It seemed a good decision as Eccles (2-23) struck with 2 early wickets. B.Smith (14) and Oz (27) steadied the ship to 56-2 with a patient innings from both. The introduction of A.Warne (2-41) worked immediately as Bare went to 59-5. Another good 50 run partnership between Archy (17) and Cookie (39) turned Bares fortunes until Shaw (2-21) got his second wicket with a second catch for Coniston's captain R.Warne. Todd (1-29) removed the banana costumed man and the reintroduction of Atkinson (2-18) saw Bare losing quick wickets at the end but R.Neville (17 not out) and Stan (2 not out) persevered to the end to see Bare post a reasonable 138/9.
After what was called 'teas' Oz went into beast mode and ripped through the Coniston top order taking 5 wickets in his first spell and looking to get all 10. Atkinson (14) offered some resistance until he was brilliantly stumped by Nev. A.Warne (34) took the initiative and hit some lusty blows with one of Brae's bowling attack hitting, or should I say landing, on his low point but we couldn't see so carry on...!!! (No sour grapes, just a big hole in the pitch...) Anyway with the introduction of a fired up Albon (3-15), Coniston were heading for a heavy loss. Stubborn batting at the end from the Coniston tail saw them within 5 overs of a draw but Oz (6-14) claimed his 6th victim and Bhardwaj (1-21) joined in the party to gain Bare a good away day victory and 15 points. With Ambleside and Holme losing, that puts Bare precariously 2nd in the table and closer to (den den derrr) Division 1! Away at Netherfield 3s next week and we wish Dave Kendall all the best with him fracturing his cheek bone for the 2s today (on his birthday). We wish him a speedy recovery. Right, off to find my St Trinions outfit for tomorrow at the test.
