Schweppsy gets out the teens!
Bare battle to take the spoils against Coniston.
After some overnight rain, Bare won a crutial toss and elected to bowl (2 from 2!!!). Excellent opening spells from Oz (1/20) and White (1/17) saw Coniston struggle to 24/2 after 23 overs. Patience was the key as Toward and A.Warne (18) put on a 50 partnership and started scoring freely with some loose deliveries from the first change bowlers. Toward reaching 54 in no time before skipper Neville changed bowlers ends and he was caught out by a correctly placed Archy! Martins mate (Parker-1/26) spun his wicket with some neat stumping work from Nev. Atkinson (15) took Coniston passed 100 then Cook (4/20) and Burgess (3/31) ripped through the Coniston middle order, including a rare catch from AJ, and tail to leave Coniston on a respectable 118 in the last over.
After lots of ham in a sandwich Bare set out to get 119 on a drying and extra rolled wicket (funny someone’s back was magically better!). Atkinson (1/38) struck early but White and Jones the bat rallied round to build a steady partnership. First change bowler R.Warne (1/29) then struck as Bare got to 47/2. Worsick gave his usual chance in the teens but then powered to a half century. Bhardwaj (39 not out) and White (62 not out) then powered a 50 partnership and just after drinks took Bare over the line earning 12 valuable points. With Trimpell next week and a depleated squad, Bare are a few points away from mathematical safety. Right, back to my holiday!!!
