This weekend will see Bargoed entertaining their old friends from north of the border, Hawick Harlequins. 'The Quins' will travel down on Friday with a party of 45 and will be facing their age old adversaries the following day.
Indeed it's going to be a busy Saturday as the 1st XV entertain Treorchy in another crucial Division One East league clash and the Warriors will face the Quins. The Bargoed Double Header will see the Warriors kick off at Midday followed by the 1st XV at 2.30 p.m. It will be a bumper day for the supporters with two games on offer.
The 1st XV game against Treorchy will see them pitched against one of only two sides to have lowered our colours this season. The following week we'll have the opportunity to exact revenge on the other side, Newbridge in the last sixteen of the SWALEC Cup.
The Warriors will have a side full of burgeoning talent against the Quins and will be led by veteran captain and Mr. Consistent Ian Jenkins. They will also have a scot in their ranks to face the Quins with hooker Dougie Westwood likely to figure in the Warriors ranks. He is also likely to be joined by the only englishman in the Bargoed squad our very own 'Johnny English' Callum McKenzie. The Quins will no doubt be looking for revenge after Bargoed defeated them up in Scotland last year with Gareth Dare in fine 'line busting' form and coach Steve Barber having a run out (or was it a walk out ?) alongside a few players considerably younger than himself.
On Saturday evening there's a show at the club with Lady Gaga making a one off appearance (doing an 'hobble') and taking time off her worldwide tour. The economic recession is difficult even for the stars in these tough times !
The Youth team travel to play Caerleon/ St. Josephs on Saturday in a Dragons 'A' League game kick of 2.30 p.m.
The Youth Team tour to Amsterdam to play Bassetts RFC is being finalised and those interested in travelling must get their deposits in ASAP. The tour is open to any of the senior squad who also want to go with a some places left on the fun bus if you fancy it !
Congratulations to both Jonathon Evans and Ieuan Jones two ex youth team players who represented the Wales under 20's out in Ireland last weekend. In what was a pretty poor performance the two of them were some of the very few in the side who enhanced their reputation, well done lads.
The photograph shows Youth and Under 16's Motivator and Guru Mike 'Taxi' Thomas on a pheasant shoot with Gareth Edwards please can we have some captions......
'Thanks for borrowing those socks Mike, by the way which one of these is your taxi then ?'
Thanks to all who turned out in force last Sunday at the rugby club to cheer Wales on. It was great to see a packed house and particularly good to see the massed ranks of the mini and juniors in attendance in a great atmosphere. Please can we have the same again this Sunday to make sure we get one step closer to that Grand Slam......Come on Wales !
