Jonathan Evans

Talented scrum half Jonathan Evans recently won his first under 18 Wales cap in the victory over Scotland at Melrose. Last Sunday he faced England at St. Helens, Swansea and had a superb game in the 44-21 defeat. Wales played some excellent rugby but the power of the England side eventually took its toll although the final score did flatter them.

The Wales squad now move on to the under 18 Four Nations Festival at Llandovery this week with further games against Ireland and Italy to come. Wales face Ireland on Friday 2nd April and then take on Italy on the 10th April.

Evans is a fine prospect and has caught the eye with his performances for the Gwent Dragons under 18 regional side, Bargoed 1st XV and latterly Pontypool in the Principality Premiership. He came through the age grades with Bargoed RFC before he became one of the youngest players to represent the 1st XV at 17 years of age earlier this season. He has now moved on to play for Pontypool and is also with the Gwent Dragons Academy.

Jonathan’s father is the current Bargoed Youth team coach and has seen him blossom at first hand in the last couple of seasons under his tutelage.

Everyone at Bargoed RFC wish Jonathan all the best for the big week ahead and hope that he comes back with two more victories after all the hard work that he and the rest of the squad have put in.
