Saturday saw the Warriors compete in the final of the Mel Davies Cup
Due to injuries and work commitments the side was picked and the backline was slightly changed with flanker Geraint Hobbs turning up in the centre and Youth player Josh Davies on the wing.
Warriors won the toss and decided to play against the strong wind conditions in the 1st half, Driving rain ensued at the start of the match as well.
Mountain Ash had a lot of the ball 1st half and their pack did quite well.
Following a great break by Matthew Hutcheon the1st points of the game came from the boot of Greg Callow from a penalty about 30 yards out.
Bargoed 1st try came from deep, the ball was turned over and good hands by flanker Alex Herbert found Outside half Greg Callow, he in turn outsprinted the Mounts defence and scored in the corner. Greg missed the resulting conversion.
Bargoeds 2nd try came from a wayward pass from Greg Callow, missing out 3 runners but luckily finding Josh Davies on the wing, he picked up brilliantly showed good feet to beat his man and then offloaded to Luke Smalley to score. . Greg missed the resulting conversion.
After this Alex Herbert was sinbinned for hands in the ruck.
Bargoed 3rd try came from a quick tap penalty from Matthew Hutcheon, He made a break and drawing Mounts fullback passed to Greg Callow who ran unopposed under the sticks for this 2nd, Greg added the extras.
The halftime whistle sounded with the score Bargoed 20 Mountain Ash 3, Mount battled well up front but Bargoeds good defence kept them at bay.
Bargoeds 4th try came from some good hands from a lot of players, Alex Herbert giving the try scoring pass to Steffan Jeremiah who dived in from close range under the posts. Callow again added the extras.
Mount desereved a try as they kept battling and this came from a five metre scrum which fell to one of their forwards who managed to dive over close to the posts. Mount added the extras to take them to 10 points
Bargoeds 5th Try came from a 5 metre scrum, The pack was dominant at this point and number 8 Liam Mahoney had the easiest of touch downs after the 8 pushed Mounts pack back.Callow added the extras.
Bargoeds last try came from lot more pressure from Bargoeds players, the ball popped up to Greg Callow who dived over from 1 yard to complete his hatrick. Callow again added the extras.
All in all the boys did well , Mount battled hard but in the end could not live with Bargoeds pace with the ball. The Warriors have now won the cup 4 times in recent times, Neil Bennett we think is the only player to involved in all 4 games.
This win will hopefully start the double this season for the Warriors who now will be looking towards the league. It looks like that they will have to win the majority of games left as Bridgend won again on Sat
