Bargoed were well beaten by a determined Treorchy outfit in the final of the Mid District Cup on a balmy night at Sardis Road. Outside half Celyn Ashton put the Rhondda side ahead with a penalty after 2 minutes and Josh Prosser squared it ten minutes later. The first of Treorchy's four tries came with a sucker punch straight from the restart, the ball being retained by the Treorchy forwards and Trystan Lazarus sailed through a gap in the midfield to run in from 40 metres. Ashton missed a relatively easy conversion. Prosser closed the gap to 6-8 with another penalty.

Bargoed's best scoring opportunity came ten minutes before the break. Second row Darren Lynch's pass would have put Lee Pearson into space 20 metres out but the winger was tackled off without the ball and the touch judge's intervention gave Bargoed a penalty but surprisingly no yellow card. Celyn Ashton wasn't so lucky moments later with referee Leighton Hodges putting him on the sideline for ten minutes for an illegal tackle on opposite number James Pizey. Prosser put it over to put Bargoed in front for the first time in the game with four minutes of the half left.

Trecorchy were unphased and caught Bargoed napping again with a darting run from scrum half Lloyd Williams who was caught on the line but the ball was recycled quickly and Andrew Mallin went over in the corner for an unconverted try. Prosser again slotted a penalty and the half time whistle went with the score at 12-13.

Bargoed started the second half with much more intent but a good build up counted for nothing as the final pass went forward after a long period of possession and territory. Prosser eventually adding a penalty but Bargoed needed much more.

Ashton returned and put over another kick to restore Treorchy's lead to 15-16 before influential scrum half Lloyd Williams ran in a simple try from the base of a scrum which Ashton converted, adding a penalty five minutes later to stretch the lead to eleven points.

Ten minutes from time Williams put the game beyond doubt with a deft kick over his shoulder which sat up nicely for Peter Hutchings to run on to, to end the game at 15-31 with Ashton's conversion.

Bargoed Chairman Neil Carter paid tribute to Treorchy "They deserved their win tonight and to be fair they outplayed us in most phases. We had an unfamiliar look about our side with some key players missing and some positional changes but that's no excuse, we were well short of our best and it showed."
