Missing Bratt already!

The Assistant Referee wasn’t ready, Bugs wasn’t ready and Tyler French wasn’t ready and this catalogue resulted in Barmouth being 1-0 down after 19 seconds as Bugs was caught by a back pass to him, the attacker put in an off-side pass to St Asaph’s Steve Williams who beat out of position French.
Matters were made worse when Paul Lewis had to come off after what seemed like, an innocuous tackle on the St Asaph goal line as Barmouth began to put a few passes together after only 4 minutes.
Both sides had their chances with Barmouth nearly going 2-0 down on 10 mins as St Asaph’s MOM Jake Walker shot just wide. Adam Morris, Ryan Jones and Sion Lloyd all had long distance shots on goal but none troubled the St Asaph keeper.
The St Asaph second was not dissimilar to their first goal as Jonno Harrison was caught in possession and French in the Barmouth goal was caught out of position for 2-0 on 31 minutes.
The pitch was proving to be Barmouth’s downfall as their normal passing gameusing French as an extra defender, wasn’t working on a bobbly surface. Even so, St Asaph continued to make better use of the conditions by being strong at the back and not allowing Barmouth any space.
A clear push in the back right in front of goal gave Barmouth hope before half-time as Rob Murfet netted the deserved penalty on 34 minutes.
The second half was a much better affair for Barmouth although we haven’t learnt how to cope with the absence of Steve Bratt at the back but the away side had some great opportunities mostly from free kicks as St Asaph were forced to tough it out at the back. From one of these free-kicks which rattled the St Asaph crossbar, Rob Murfet ran back to half way and in frustration tripped an opponent for Barmouth’s only booking of the game. This will probably see a one match ban for the cup game next weekend.
The third goal for St Asaph came as Barmouth pressed for what would have been a deserved equalisier, but it was not to be.
