Green U19s beat OEs in the T20 Blast semi-final but lose out to last year’s winners Stourbridge CC in the final

Barnards Green U19s took the field against Old Elizabethans in the T20 U19 Blast semi-final – playing with just 10 men. Despite this disadvantage they were able to restrict OEs to 110-8. Ben Sutton took 3-23 and Ben Brommage took 2-13 and only James Allen was able to establish an innings – making 39. In reply Ben Sutton helped the Green off to a flyer with a rapid 15, and after Josh Dickenson and Josh Blunt fell cheaply OEs had fought their way back into the game. But an impressive partnership of 71 between Ben Brommage (31) and Harvey Smedley (32) saw the Green home with over 2 overs to spare.

In the finals the Green played trophy holders Stourbridge CC. Stourbridge set a formidable total of 137-4 with Dominic O’Reilly hitting 45 and Sam Fitzmaurice 29 not out and Tom Stephens 23 not out. IN reply the Green were immediately under pressure after Ben Sutton fell early. Tight bowling from Dominic O’Reilly (1-12) and Hasnain Nawaz (3-23) made scoring difficult. Despite the best efforts of all Green batsmen it wasn’t enough and the Green were bowled out for 87.

The squad can be very proud of their achievements in reaching the final after wins over older and more-experienced sides – in fact only two of the squad are not eligible to play again next season.
