Barnsley extend their lead at the top with another bonus point win
Barnsley Ladies extended their lead at the top of the table with their 5th Bonus point win of the season with a 5 points to 56 victory over Manchester Ladies.
The ladies set off brightly kicking into the wind but quickly put the first points on the board in the first minute when Captain Alix Taylor went over for the first try.
Barnsley kept up the pressure and were awarded with a second try when Sally Wenham touched down after breaking through the Manchester defence.
Top try scorer Fran Copley added to the score when she took the ball on the wing and cut back inside wrong footing the Manchester full back.
Barnsley's fourth try came from their domination in the scrum when they forced Manchester back to their try line to leave Becky Patrick a simple task of picking the ball up from the back of the scrum and touching down.
The whole of the first half saw Manchester camped in their own half trying to keep Barnsley at bay, but they secured the bonus point for the fifth try just before half time when the referee awarded Barnsley a penalty try for a high tackle just a yard or so from the Manchester line. Alix Taylor converted the kicks from the first four tries but the award of a penalty try the conversion is not needed as it is automatically awarded.
HALF TIME: Manchester 0 - Barnsley 35
Barnsley rang the changes at half time making substitutions in a few key positions but it certainly didn't upset the rhythm too much as Jess Roberts scored after 3 minutes of the restart, with Sally Wenham scoring her second of the match a few minutes later. Becky Patrick took over kicking duties and converted both.
Manchester started to make a couple of forays into the Barnsley half and after a period of indiscipline from Barnsley where they were penalised allowing Manchester to creep towards the try line The hosts finally got a score on the board midway through the half, although the conversion was missed.
Barnsley took their foot of the gas a little but Manchester couldn't make any further headway and Alix Taylor added another try and conversion before the end to seal an easy victory.

Second place Birkenhead managed a narrow win 10 -5 against Darlington but Barnsley's bonus point extended their lead to 4 points at the top. Next Sunday Barnsley play hosts to Sefton at Shaw Lane with a 2pm Kick Off.
The draw for the quarter final of the Intermediate Cup has been made and Barnsley will travel down to Warwickshire to face Kenilworth Ladies on the 25th February
