Youngsters gain brave 5-2 victory
An EXTREMELY young Barnsley 2nd XI produced an excellent display to beat Slazenger 4th XI at home.
With eight under 16s in their 12-man squad and a goalkeeper play up front, Barnsley feared that the visitors would be too strong.
But the reds have been unbeaten since they lost to Slanzenger in October and continued that run.
Slazenger had a lot of space and possession but could not score and Tom Lodge put Barnsley ahead against the run of play, Adam Poskitt then doubled the lead after he latched onto a Richard Jane pass.
Youngster Connor Massesy made it 3-0 with the poise of domeone much older. The visitors pulled one back just before half time and were stronger after the break.
But Barnsley went 4-1 up when jane put Lodge through again and the youngster smashed home. Connor Massey bagged Barnsley's fifth and final goal of the day as he skillfully dribbled round the visiting keeper before walking the ball into the net for 5-1.
Slazengers looked useful going forward but found the home keeper John-Joe Massey in inspired form. He was eventually beaten by a late penalty but Barnsley were 5-2 winners.
