About Us
BARNSLEY & DISTRICT REFEREES' ASSOCIATION was founded in 1910 and has a reputation for excellence when it comes to supporting and developing its members.
The association is affiliated to the Referees Association of England (RAE) and Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA. Barnsley RA has one of the most diverse membership portfolios imaginable, from future talent of teenagers to those having seen and conquered, from those officiating at grass root level to those on the national list.
Despite whatever level you officiate at Barnsley RA is one of the most welcoming associations around. If you have an interest in refereeing matters or you would like to become a referee then please do not hesitate to contact us. We are always keen to welcome new members to our society.
The association holds meetings/development sessions on the first Thursday in every month. These generally take place at Ardsley House Hotel and start at 7:30pm. The evenings are informal whereby a guest speaker facilitates a development session on the months current hot topic, followed by members discussing all aspects of football and refereeing over a drink afterwards. Intrigued? Then why not come along, no commitments!
The association also boasts an excellent array of social events throughout the year, from Sports mans dinners to summer fairs for the family; you name it, we hold an event for it.
As an active and dynamic association our key aim is support and develop our referees. Since 1888 we have had representation on the football league every year except one that's surely proof we are doing something right.
