Better luck next time.
Barnstaple U13’s played host to a visiting team from Ledbury, Herefordshire this weekend.
The visitors started the game strongly putting Barum on the back foot but they were unable to break the reds down. However it was not long before Barum started to give away silly penalties, which allowed the visitors territory and ultimately the first try of the game.
The visitors seemed to be controlling the game and it was not long before they scored another try and conversion to put them 12 – 0 ahead. But the second half was more about Barum pride. The forwards started to win scrums and rucks and the momentum was going forward. Barum forwards started to punch holes in the game line and after several phases of recycling the ball eventually lead to Danny Southworth breaking through for a well deserved try.
But for all that pressure, and seeking that elusive try, Barum conceded a late try and handed the victory to Ledbury, 19 –5.
As of the nature of the regulations and rules the referee has great control the decisions made.
A neutral ref is essential in createing a fair enjoyable game.
We need to look at this before the beginning of the next season.
