Barnstaple U11’s hosted Taunton this Sunday morning. Barum won the contest earlier this season in Somerset, but this week it was Taunton’s turn to leave with an away win under their belts.
The first half was very tight with scoring opportunities at a premium. Taunton edged ahead twice only for Barum to peg them back on both occasions. Barum’s first try came from an attacking scrum after George Richardson had been held up in the try zone. Casey George drew the defense on the blind side before releasing Sam Bithell to score in the corner. The second was right on half time and came from another attack down the blind side from a scrum. This time Tom Swales identified the space and took the opportunity to make the break, he moved the ball quickly right and George Richardson made no mistake in the corner for the last action of the half.
The third quarter turned out to be Barum’s downfall as the visitors ran in three unanswered tries to take command of the game. Most of Taunton’s success came down the left flank and they clinically capitalized on any missed tackles in that area. The forth quarter saw Taunton move further ahead before Dylan Gosling broke impressively from midfield to complete the scoring for the day.
