Rochdale saw more of the ball early on before Barnton started to get hold of the ball and in the 11th minute took the lead. Matthew Rigby sent a superb cross in and Captain Colin Quirk headed home brilliantly. The rest of the half was pretty even with only Barnton debutant keeper Danny Lever making a smart one on one save to keep it 1-0 at half time.

Second half saw the hosts fly out of the blocks scoring two in quick succession. First was Ahmed Ally who was found well by a reverse pass by Quirk and slotted past the keeper. 2 Minutes later and it was 3-0. Quirk again with a brilliant assist for Tony Wynne who headed home at the far post. The game calmed down until the 83rd minute. Mark Darbyshire picked up the ball and fed Ally and chipped the keeper one on one to make it 4. Rochdale did pull one back with a header from a corner late on and the game ended 4-1.
