On a beautiful Sunny Evening at Hindpool we had a tough game out on the Park. Hindpool had 7 very good players, and we let them have 4 of our team to make a game of it.
Simon and I felt it was important to not go 7 a side as all the children would get a game on the night and we could continue to keep working on our shape and getting everyone used to playing in their positions and improving.
If we had gone for 7 a side we thought it would have been detrimental to what we are trying to achieve, so hats off to Keelan, Nathan, Ollie and Pat for helping Hindpool and putting in a lot of effort.
The first half was really tough, Hindpool have some good tough players and they all stood up really well to a good solid display from Island. We kept to our game plan well, and there were very little mistakes in attack.
The only few things I would mention is when we are moving the ball wide we need to know when we need to be in or out of the line. Too many cooks can spoil the broth!!! And on a couple of occasions we had too many hands in the line for the ball to go through. Also we have to play to the Ref regardless of whether we think they are right or wrong. We gave a few daft penalties away.
When we did get it right though we looked awesome, and some of the play was excellent. Ryan Higgins
moved to centre for this game to cover for Hayden, and he had an excellent game. It was beneficial having experience there and one of the attacks that Ryan put Edson through was awesome. It did'nt result in a try as Edson was stopped just short, but it showed both myself and Simon that at times the players are making the right decisions of when to pass and when to go.
had a good game as well. Crofty has a big heart and is a good listener, reliable and plays his role well, and everyone was shouting him on when he put a brilliant raid on and got the ball and nearly scored too.
went over in a brilliant move right in the first half, but just ran it dead in a very compact dead ball area, but a great finish none the less.
was outstanding along with Brad Lee Dutton in defence, and Kaelyb Woodend got top tackler from their Coach, and rightly so making tackle after tackle from marker. Kaelyb is leading by example, and getting a good communicator on the field as is Ryan, so that experience really helps some of our fantasitic new players.
I was very very proud of our shape. Defensively we were excellent. The lads all held their shape and tackled like demons. I really cannot fault the line work. Lets keep it up.
On the try front, Callum Postlethwaite
scored a great try, Fenton Postlethwaite
used his power going forward to smash over and Thomas Salt got a cracker from distance. I was happy for him, he is usually very unselfish with the ball, but you have to know when to go and on this occasion he did.
On speaking to Phil (Hindpool) with the kids that were left at the end he gave Thomas Salt and Brad Lee Dutton MOM and Kaelyb Woodend tackler being particularly impressed with Kaelyb's defence.
For me the best parts of the game were Ryan and Edsons move down the left and the hands that nearly put Crofty in. Brilliant
My MOMs were Keelan, Nathan, Pat and Ollie for being selfless and helping put a game on at all.
See you Wednesday all.
