The 2013-14 season saw the sides collect a colossal 178 points between them, en route to their respective promotions from Welsh League Division Three; scoring some 228 goals in the process.

However, little could separate Barry and Llanwern in their two head-to-head meetings and another close affair is expected this weekend at Newport Stadium (pictured), the erstwhile home of Newport County.

At Jenner Park in October, strikes from Dale Howarth and Jordan Cotterill gave Barry a 2-0 half-time lead, before the visitors restored parity in the second period through former Town man Nicky Hooper and Mike Bishop.

The re-match in March delivered even more entertainment, as Llanwern overhauled a 1-0 deficit, only to fall victim to a dramatic own goal equaliser in the dying minutes; ensuring a second 2-2 draw.

Ultimately, the chase for silverware between the sides came down to the final game of the season, as Barry clinched the Welsh League Division Three championship at Llanwern's expense.

As a result, the Gwent outfit will be eager to exact revenge this afternoon and bring Barry’s unbeaten start to the Welsh League Division Two season to an abrupt end.

Much like the Town, Llanwern have suffered a number of injuries of late; though recent wins over AFC Llwydcoed and Ely Ranger have seen them regain form after an uneasy August.

While Gareth Morgan’s team were not in action last weekend, battling Barry secured their fourth win of the league campaign with a hard-fought triumph at Tata Steel.

Striker James Dixon was on hand to score the winner in a valuable 1-0 victory; helping Gavin Chesterfield's side up to second and a point behind leaders Aberbargoed Buds, with a game in hand.

It was also a fruitful weekend for forwards Keir McInery and Bradley O’ Loughlin, who netted in the U19s’ 4-1 win at Bridgend Street on Sunday, with O’ Loughlin claiming a hat-trick.

With returning favourite TJ Nagi adding to Chesterfield’s options up front, Barry will be hopeful of bringing another positive result home later, with kick-off against Llanwern at 2.30pm.
