Barry Town United will lift the league championship trophy at Jenner Park for the first time in 12 years this Saturday; and all are invited!

Primary and secondary schools across the town have already snapped up tickets for the clash between Barry and Llanwern AFC (2.30pm kick-off) and a jovial crowd is expected to cheer on the Town in their final Welsh League Division Two fixture.

After a difficult decade to put it mildly, the Jenner Park club has come into its own as a fan-owned community entity and is now making strides with a host of homegrown talents at the forefront of its success.

When Adebayo Akinfenwa and his Town teammates hoisted their last Welsh Premier title aloft in 2003, the likes of Lee Baldock, Lewis Cosslett, James Dixon, Ryan Evans, Paul Morgan and others were mere schoolchildren.

12 years on however, these youngsters who grew up playing football in and around the Barry area have helped secure an unprecedented double promotion for their hometown club; and Saturday's trophy presentation will be a fine reward for their efforts.

For manager Gavin Chesterfield, one suspects it will be business as usual, with victory or a draw lifting his side above the 70-point threshold in this, the season swansong.

However, visitors Llanwern will surely be eager to gatecrash the party, particularly after Barry pipped the Newport outfit to the Division Three title on the closing day of last season.

In their most recent visit to Jenner Park, Llanwern battled back from a 2-0 deficit to earn a 2-2 draw and honours would be even again in the reverse fixture months later.

Nevertheless, although the Town's fantastic 5-1 win at Newport Stadium in September left the Gwent men licking their wounds, they must be considered a threat this weekend, especially after a surge in form that carried them to seventh in the Division Two table.

Leading the line for Barry will be top goalscorer TJ Nagi, while Dan Bradley will be looking for another clean sheet to take him within touching distance of a mighty 100 as the Town's senior goalkeeper.

Off the field meanwhile, a range of club merchandise and various refreshments will be available in the Jenner Room, all ahead of the presentation of Barry's first Welsh League Division Two title since 1958.

Supporters are encouraged to arrive early and make an afternoon of it, with the Gladstone Road and Barry Road turnstiles open from 2pm and match entry at £5, with concessions available.

Among other matchday events, the club will take its second annual Members' Photograph, while players of the Development Centre will show their skills during the half-time interval and a collection for Alzheimers Research UK will be held around the ground.

Schools in Barry and the Vale interested in complimentary tickets for this Saturday's match are encouraged to contact club secretary David Cole on 07557 665847 with their requirements or send a message via www.twitter.com/BarryTownUnited.
