Barry manager Gavin Chesterfield has confirmed an exciting new recruit, ahead of his team's upcoming Welsh League Division Two campaign.

Versatile midfielder Rhys James signed from Risca United yesterday; having scored seven times in the Cuckoos' successful promotion season.

A former Newport County player, Rhys started his career with Cadoxton Imps, before continuing his football education at what is now the Barry Town United Development Centre.

The Barry Comprehensive alumni would be part of Matthew Case's Town youth team from U12 to U14 level, signing for Cardiff City at the age of 13.

A technically-skilled player with an eye for goal, Rhys was called into the Wales U16, U17 and U18 squads during his time with the Bluebirds.

At home in a wide or central role, he is now set to feature against his former side, when Barry host a Cardiff XI at Jenner Park on Tuesday 5th August (tickets here).

On behalf of all at the Town, we are delighted to bring Rhys back into the fold and look forward to welcoming him home next month.
