On Saturday afternoon, the club welcomed Pontypridd Town for a Welsh League fixture with historic connotations.

100 years ago, the first ever meeting of Barry and Pontypridd at Jenner Park ended in a goalless draw; but this weekend saw the visitors no match for the home side, whose exciting attacking football steering them to a record victory.

After top goalscorer Cotterill opened the scoring with a low free-kick in the tenth minute, Pontypridd managed to stabilise and appeared to be playing their way back into the match.

However, Cotterill's second would extinguish their flame of recovery, before attacker Ryan Jenkins scored possibly the team goal of the season, slotting home to conclude a fine passing move right before the interval.

Three goals to the good, Barry were playing some fine football in the late-March sunshine. Unfortunately though, the afternoon was tainted by a serious leg injury to winger Michael Hartley, which saw the popular winger leave the field on a stretcher.

The club is awaiting news of a scan this week, and will hope for the best possible news for the former Cardiff City man, who has scored sixteen times in competitive play this season.

Reacting well to the set-back, Barry soon found themselves four goals ahead, as midfielder Troy Green hit a grass-cutting drive low into the bottom corner. Four then became five minutes latter, as Cotterill hit home his hat-trick to further delight the spectators.

After the classy Jenkins scored another to make it six, wide man Dale Howarth was rewarded for his efforts with a goal of his own, while central man Scott Jones added his name to the scoresheet with some style to make it 8-0 to Barry.

Having matched their biggest win of the season, Town then pressed for a ninth and it came in the dying moments, as Evans' header hit the crossbar, and then the goalkeeper, before being swept in by Cotterill for his fourth of the game.
