Barry Town Ladies continued their good form in the round robin stage of the 'Alun Evans League Cup' on Sunday 21st January with an impressive 7-1 victory over Cwmbran Celtic.
With the weather affecting most game across South Wales at the weekend, Barry, playing at the House of Sport indoor dome at Leckwith put in a strong performance to brush aside their Women's Welsh League opponents to make it 4 wins from 5 matches in the group stages.
Despite Barry starting strongly in this fixture, it was the visitors that took the lead with their first attack of the match with a good finish. To their credit, Barry kept their composure and were soon back on level terms with the in-form midfielder, Becca Jones scoring to make it 1-1.
Abi Smyth then put Barry in front in what would prove to be a fantastic individual display from her to make it 2-1 by the end of the first half.
The home side continued to make most of the running and soon Barry went 3-1 ahead with youngster, Bethan O'Donnell scoring a great goal to give Barry a two goal cushion. With the game now being dominated by the home side, Barry looked likely to run away with the match and so it proved with further goals coming from Emily Mortimore, a second from a Jones free kick and Smyth added a further two goals to record her first hat-trick for the club making the final score 7-1.
In the end this was a comfortable win for Barry, and the players showed a professional attitude throughout. The Ladies will next be in action on 4th February when they take on Aberystwyth in an important league clash.
