FAW U16 Cup: Dafen Welfare 0-6 Barry Town Utd

9 months ago By Barry Town Utd Ladies FC

U16's girls march into the FAW Cup Semi-Final with an excellent away performance at Dafen.

“The whole team put in a great performance today and thoroughly deserved the result to get to the semi-final. Every player played their part in a solid performance and we look forward to the next round.” Lee Jenkins (U16 Manager)

Having come through the opening round robin stages of the FAW Cup as Group winners, the U16 Barry Town Utd girls were given a trip to Llanelli to face West Wales side, Dafen Welfare in the Quarter-Finals.

The opening period of the game saw Barry on top for large periods in possession, however despite creating several good chances the Dafen defensive unit stayed resolute denying the visitors an opening goal.

The match remained 0-0 at half time with the visitors frustrated but the players showed great composure and patience during the second period which saw Barry eventually hit the net on several occasions.

Sian Rees was the player to finally break the deadlock and once Barry had the lead they didn't look back. Phoebe Curtis playing in her first game of the competition scored the second of the game to put Barry in control.

Rees was to have a game to remember as she notched up another three second half goals to take her tally to 4 for the day with Curtis getting a second late on to make the final score a comfortable 0-6 away win for Barry who reach the semi-finals for a second year in a row.

After the game, team manager Lee Jenkins commented "The whole team put in a great performance today and thoroughly deserved the result to get to the semi-final. Every player played their part in a solid performance and we look forward to the next round."

Barry now await the Semi-Final draw to see if they can go one better than last season and reach the final. Well done to all the players and coaching staff.
