Ladies prepare for Merthyr test

2 weeks ago By Barry Town Utd Ladies FC

Barry Town Utd Ladies start 2019 with a home fixture against Merthyr Town this Sunday.

“From our point of view, we are pleased with the progress we have made from the summer and we now look to build on the foundations we have set for the rest of the season and keep improving” Luke Williams (1st Team Manager)

Following the Christmas break, Barry Town Utd Ladies will return to action this Sunday when they take on Merthyr Town FC in their opening 2019 fixture in the Welsh Women's League.

Barry will be looking to maintain the strong start they have made during the first half of the season, currently sitting in third place in the league table just 3 points adrift of current leaders Caldicot Town who Barry will face on 13th January.

The vale based club have won 8 of their 9 league matches to date with their only setback coming in their final fixture of 2018 at home to Aberystwyth Town on 9th December and the ladies will be looking to start 2019 on a positive note.

Merthyr, a newly promoted side to the second tier of ladies football in Wales have made a positive start to life in the Welsh Women's League having picked up 5 wins from their opening 10 fixtures and currently sit in 5th place in the league table and will no doubt prove a good test for Barry. The Martyrs are also under new managements with Giovanni Monroe appointed as first team manager recently

Both sides met on the opening day of the league season back in September with Barry running out 3-1 winners with goals from Chelsea Deacon, Ellen Phillips and Daisy Evan-Watkins.

Going into the game this weekend, Barry manager Luke Williams commented; "We are looking forward to getting back into action this Sunday in what will be a testing game for us. We are looking to bounce back following a disappointing result last time out and Sunday should be an entertaining game with two good teams. From our point of view, we are pleased with the progress we have made from the summer and we now look to build on the foundations we have set for the rest of the season and keep improving.”

The action kicks off at 2pm at Jenner Park Stadium with FREE Entry.
