Ladies Teams Ready to Kick Off League Season

1 month ago By Barry Town Utd Ladies FC

Our Ladies First Team and Development Team kick off their league season this Sunday looking for a positive start.

Following a period of hard work over the summer months in pre-season, both our ladies first team and development team take to the field on Sunday 3rd September to kick off the new league season.

The First Team commence their second season in the Women's Welsh League hoping to go one better than last year after narrowly missing out on promotion to the Welsh Premier League and open up with an intriguing away match at Penybont Ladies.

Penybont finished just behind Barry in third place last season and this opening fixture will lay down a marker for both teams ambitions this season. Barry won both matches last season in two tightly contested games and will hope to repeat that feat at the weekend.

The summer has seen a number of additions to the Barry squad with new signings, Molly Chapman, Charlotte Preen and Robyn Facey joining the setup along with Bethan O'Donnell and Jasmine Rowley who have come through the youth system following a successful season at U16 last year. In addition, Rebecca Cornelius and Rebecca Jones have been promoted from the Development team. The squad has real strength in depth this season which will be needed with the league expanded to 10 teams and strong opposition anticipated.

Our Development team has also seen a number of changes during the summer. Luke Williams and Edryd Thomas have stepped up from Under 16 level to coach the team and a number of new players having joined the squad including Brooke Howell, Molly Chapman, Katie White, Case Nicholas. A number of former Under 16 players have also stepped up to senior football and have already made a great impact over the summer. Striker, Emma Cannon has scored 10 goals in 4 pre-season fixtures and defenders Chloe Clarke and Amelia Davidson have added good defensive options.

With confidence high after some encouraging pre-season performances, the squad will be hoping to compete on a consistent basis in a strong development league and progress more players into the first team.

Their opening fixture will see them take on Tredegar at Jenner Park Stadium this Sunday, 5pm kick off.

The club would like to wish both teams the best of luck for the season ahead.
