Badgers - Report
Date: Saturday 21st January 2012 - Start Time: 11:30
|Barton Hockey Club||1||vs||2||Ashby|
The Badgers hosted Ashby Hockey Club on Saturday. The Barton side had no substitutes and only one adult as opposed to the Ashby side who played with three adults. It was a challenging 70 minutes for both sides, with plenty of attacks from both teams. Barton started well with early chances and organised defending. After the first ten minutes the game became more open with fast end to end stuff when Ashby broke the dead-lock. A good piece of play on the left for Ashby resulted in a shot being rebounded out to an Ashby striker who calmly slotted the ball into the empty goal. The score line became 0-1 and stayed at that going into half time.
After the break Barton started out well with early chances. Again Ashby replied with numerous attacks and short corners, a good counter-attack by Ashby lead to an opportunity inside the D which was struck against the post. Barton were under immense pressure from the Ashby forwards with shots being saved and cleared of the line. Until a break from the right back Michael Slinn lead to the ball being crossed into centre of the D, the ball was deflected back out to Slinn who slotted the ball into the goal from three metres out, 1-1.
The game continued to be open and the ball was taken from end to end, when finally the inevitable happened and goal was scored. Ashby had regained the lead, a neat move through the middle and into the D created the chance for an Ashby player to take a reverse stick shot which was saved but the ball landed at the stick of an Ashby forward who was unmarked, calmly passed the ball into the open goal, 1-2.The game was slipping away from Barton, despite the final attempts from the home side. The final whistle went with the score line at 1-2 and a young Barton side feeling disappointed with the final result.
