On a hard partly frozen pitch with a cold wind blowing across it Barton failed to capitalise on a good start with a combination of good goalkeeping and poor finishing frustrating Barton. Nottingham began to get a foothold in the game and as Barton pushed forward Nottingham caught them on the break, and with their first attack of the game scored. Shortly after this Nottingham scored from a well struck short corner and Barton went into the half time break 2 - 0 down.
The second half continued in the same manner with John Palmer and Adam Farrington creating good opportunities for the Barton forwards but it wasn't until the last 10 minutes that Grant Palmer managed to convert one of these chances with a good finish at the far post. Barton pushed for the equaliser in a frantic finish but in the last minute of the game Jake Bailey was denied by a great save from the keeper and Nottingham scored on the break to seal their victory. Just not Bartons day.
