Both teams fielded a mixture of youth and experienced players in the Midlands Central League game.

Barton’s youngsters went out from the start with a confident, positive attitude and were not intimidated by the more experienced team from Burton.
Meadows and Moreau in defence were supported by Gascoigne who had an excellent game.
The midfield of S. Farrington and Owen Farrington, both back from holidays held strong with the support of John Palmer, Adam Bentley and Tom Beard.
The first half saw Barton holding their own well, but some excellent play by the Burton youngsters saw
The inexperience and young legs of Barton started to tire towards the end of the second half and a couple of well executed penalty corners from Burton swelled the score sheet.
Barton had chances. An excellent drive and cross from Dinnie could not be converted and a series of penalty corners came to nothing. Finally it came down to Steve Farmington to score the Barton goal. The score line possibly did not reflect the game, with both teams playing some good hockey and making chances , Captain Farrington commented that “Barton’s youngsters should not get disheartened by the score line and should be proud of the way they played, some of the players playing their first game of adult hockey today”.
