Barton Men 2nd XI 2
Coventry and North Warwick Men’s 2nd XI 4
Barton 2's knew they were in for a hard game against promotion chasing Coventry & North Warks, and so it proved with the opposition getting off to a flying start scoring two goals in the first 5 minutes against a very static and bemused looking Barton side. Barton had to change their formation to counter Coventry's very good passing game and try to get a foot hold in the match. As the first half progressed Barton began to make some chances, and from one of these Scott Deacon
managed to force the ball into the net to bring the scoreline to 2-1. Barton realised they were still in this game and with Gascoigne and Ridgewick forming a large defensive wall and Tom Scott
charging down the right wing, the play swung in Barton's favour. After good work from the Barton midfield, Chris Mason
made some time and space for himself in the D to fire in a superb goal and bring the scores level at the break.
The second half saw Coventry re-establishing themselves on the game but Barton hung on grimly forcing the opposition to fight for every ball, in the end Coventry's passing game began to tell and they scored twice in the last 5 minutes. Barton showed a lot of character in the game but have to admit they were beaten by a better side. Next week the team travel to bottom side Coventry City and University looking for a repeat of the 7-0 demolition in their previous encounter.
