The one we have all been looking forward to. Barton Hill had a history of producing good wing forwards. The first game I watched I remember being very impressed by the combination of Dave Lupton and Colin Dyer. They were like Hill and Back. Both more natural 7s but able to adapt their game to suit the team. Then the team evolved and a new duo emerged. Sam Steer and Bill Sweet. I used to love watching those two from the bench or the second team pitch. As players the only thing thet had in common was a love of scoring and fighting, but together it was a perfect combo of size, speed, aggression and skill. Luke Harris also has to be considered, a fantastic player who has every attribute. Speaking of Lukes my vote goes to Bickford. A real silient assassian and team player. I have no problem paying taxes as long as they are going towards fine upstanding citizens like him. |

Ive been waiting for this position to come up .There will be a some flankers upset i think , because we have had some great players in this position past and present. Dyer, Coster, Lupton, luke harris, john brain before he turn prop, cutterham, nick bollock , bill sweet , sam steer, even ross Mcgrath these are just a few. Rob hopper even thou he was second team because of the names above he too was great player. Then you got Wayne Millard who when he played in this position was as good as any. Ill be back on this one i need to talk to them all and see who is offering the best bride. |

Really hard to pick this one Phil Elliot was a great try scorer however he wasn't overly keen on doing any other work ! Loopy was fantastic as was Luke Harris & ross McGrath was pretty useful to. Ultimately though I go for Colin Dyer & Sam Steer |

there are certain players you would pick depending on who you were playing . colin dyer at times could control the tempo of a game from either side , quality. i was all happy to see mauler on the team sheet out and out 100%. sweety frighted opposition just with his presence . sam as we know is quality to , but currently playing at scrum half. two blokes that always stood out for me were luke harris especially in his younger days , and dave lupton best open side i seen or played with . only my choice but dont know how anyone can leave lupton out . and number 8 ian patten . first played with pats when we were 17 . fair play he is still going strong . Here we go then.we have had some awesome backrow so this is really tough.but the two what would stand out for me would be loopy and Luke Harris thats when the fat Sod didn't have half of scrap heap challenge in his body.I just think thos two in your side with patts at 8 would be top class |

I think Matty Knighton has hit the nail on the head , you had an abundance of strong back row and dependent on who you were playing against or which style of rugby chosen my views change. Keep it tight and let the forwards dog it out ??? Has to be Sweety , Mauler, Loopy ( Steve Ireland ) Fast , Expansive , Open game ??? Patts , Sam Steer , Colin Dyer ( Luke Bickford ) However my selections are below as the two are total class and the best i have played with !!! my pick would be :- Luke Harris ( 6 ) , Dave Lupton ( 7 ) with patts already selected at ( 8 ) I have not selected a nine on this forum so Sam steer gets the Nod there as i could not leave him out of my team ! |

This is probably the most tightly contested position, we have in this area been blessed (for once), Dave Lupton for me is the first name on the team sheet, played with him loads and he was absolute quality the game we play today would suite him down to the ground, it’s no coincidence that his body feel apart and he finished his career early, my other vote goes to Sam as he is a balls to the wall kind of player that gives everything but has a brain for rugby as well, Dyer could read a game better than any, Mauler would tackle anyone, anything and had a brilliant dive pass, Luke Harris quality but cut short by his injury (not finished yet), we also had a French guy for a season John-Phillip he was very good as well!!! Others Paul Harding, Guy Harding, Phil Ellis, Tom Hatch, Deaf Chris |
