Kai Davis is aiming to end the season on a high after breaking into the Barwell starting line-up.

The right-back played the full ninety minutes in the Canries' defeat against Workington on Saturday, his first start in senior football.

After a month of waiting patiently on the bench, Davis hopes his performance will spark a late run in the side, with a view of using the games as an audition for next season's plans at Kirkby Road.

Speaking after the match, Davis said: "It was a great experience for me. I came here to play football and I'm glad I've been given the opportunity to do that.

"All the lads were encouraging and just wanted me to play my natural game.

"Jimmy said it was a good opportunity to showcase my skills, especially being up against one of the best wingers in the league.

"We've got three matches left now, so hopefully Jimmy keeps faith with me and I can have a good end to the season.

Following a nervy first few minutes of the match, 20-year-old Davis grew into things fairly quickly, with his pacy runs towards the right byline causing the Workington left side a number of problems.

"It took a while for me to get going as I had to get used to the pace of the game," the full-back admitted.

"I made a few mistakes, but improved as the game went on. I feel I had a better second-half than first-half.

"Going forward and supporting attacks is an important part of my game. I used to be a winger, so I'm the 'winger turned full-back' player.

"It's an area of the game I enjoy- getting the ball out of my feet and driving down the touchline- and definitely a strength of mine".

Barwell face a trip to Mickleover Sports on Easter Saturday, with a local derby against Coalville Town two days later.
