Dave Laing has issued the following press release regarding the tragic death of Susan Taylor whilst swimming the English Channel this week.

The Officers, Committee, Players and Members of Barwell Football Club were extremely sorry to hear that local swimmer, Susan Taylor, had lost her life whilst attempting to swim the English Channel.

Susan was trying to fulfil an ambition, not only for herself but also for her family, friends and the village community who, justifiably, will be very proud of her efforts.

Dave Laing, Barwell FC Chairman, commented that at the Football Club we have similar objectives to achieve as high a status as it is possible for our village community and we respect how hard Susan must have trained and worked. To swim 31 miles in strong currents and being in the water for approximately 16 hours is a feat of endurance and skill. We know that she was doing the swim to raise money for Rainbows and Diabetes UK and we have been pleased to send £250 to each of those charities in support of Susan.

Barwell’s Honorary Life President is Roger Goadby whose son, David, swam the Channel in August 1989. David is currently living in Australia and has sent an e-mail asking for his sincerest condolences to be passed on to Susan’s family.
