REPORT | AFC Rushden & Diamonds 0-0 Barwell
Both teams played out a fair goalless draw on Non League Day.
Barwell goalkeeper Liam Castle denied Jack Bowen from close range in the opening five minutes, before Alex Tomkinson curled a shot over the bar a few minutes later as the visitors looked like the brighter of the two teams in the early stages.
Rushden’s Albie Hopkin looked dangerous in attack but could not take advantage of his chances.
Barwell debutant Jahvan Davidson-Miller, recently signed from Kettering Town, turned his man in the middle of the park and fired a shot inside the post from 30 yards.
Minutes before the break, Albie Hopkins broke through down the left hand hit the post, before smashing home the rebound to bring his side level at the break.
After the break, Barwell started on the front foot as Liam Canavan fired over the bar.
Barwell goalkeeper Liam Castle then produced a great save to deny Zac Richards’ effort at his near post.
The second half was a poor affair for the neutrals, with neither side playing particularly attractive football.
Liam Canavan missed two headers in the second half, as both Eliot Putman and Leicester loanee Kian Williams fired some precise crosses into the box.
Ben Diamond and Jack Bowen both had chances for the home side, but couldn’t convert in a match where missed chances were the tale of the game.
