Basfords central midlands reserve side was the only Basford team kitting up this weekend, and were a little unfortunate to lose 2-3 at home to Matlock reserves. United came from behind on several occasions in the game and felt really agrieved by a very questionable club linesmans interpretation of the offside rule, that wiped off an equaliser deep in stoppage time. The decision wass even more questionable given it was,nt until the ball was nestling in the net for the linesman to raise his flag.
Off the field some nice work continues with ground work, and delighted to report the ground is taking shape now, which is very pleasing after such alot of hard work and expense.
Disppaointed to report that the executive committee of the club has reluctantly agreed to disband our NSL reserve team from imediate and have tended our resignation. The reserve team were in reality the Academy team and were always in a difficult position in a very tough NSL Division 1 with alot of physically stronger sides than our young lads. Given a drop in numbers in both the CML A side as well as the NSL side then it was only feasible to run one combined side, which we have decided it will be the CML A side. Would like to publicly thank the academy teams management for their time and efforts which was considerable. The club do hope we will not lose the nucleus of the academy as some very excellent footballers for the future and for the young lads to be playing in a team containing a greater number of experienced players will certainly help their development. Would like to publically apologise to the NSL committee as it was no reflection on them or the league for this decision.
The integration of these lads was typified as Sat game included 3 from the academy Marco Ricci, Shaun King and Adam Wooley who all did well in what was a decent performance Sat by the A team that did not warrent a defeat. With the likes of Scott Bailey and a few others hopefully available going forward then it should allow the formation of a stronger team.
This weekend marks a big week for the first team and all players of both 1sts and 2nds are requested to train twice this week on Tues 7pm and the same on Thursday 7pm. With the 1st team playing a big game against Pinxton on Saturday then we need a full turnout for both training sessions.
United 1sts have a week to get several players off the injury table in readiness for Saturday and it is hoped that all will make it although Darren Garmston,s injury is a cause for concern, but we remain hopeful intensive physiotherapy will do the trick.
