Basildon forwards set the stall out from the off by winning the ball and letting the backs run this opened things up allowing he kick off number 8 Luke Teeboon score. This Woke Braintree up and with some good hands and excellent running they replied by scoring in the 14th minute.
The game was hard but fair with both teams fighting hard and moving the ball well. Braintree managed to score at the end of the first half and kicked the conversion to lead 12 - 5 at the interval.
Basildon came back at the start of the second half and with some solid work from the forward Tom Barnet set up the next try for Ben Brown to drive through and score. The game again went from end to end thrust and counter thrust but both sides defended well but with just two minutes left Callum Ainslie and Kyle Mclaughlin linked up and with some great hands from both players Basildon managed to push Braintree back to their try line. Basildon got a scrum and number 8 Luke Teeboon popped the ball out to Kyle Mclughlin to score.
Braintree kicked off again but there was no time left and Basildon came away from the game winners 15--12.
