Basildon started well with flanker Tom Barnet powering through the defence to score the first of his three tries in the 3rd minute of the game. Scrappy play ensued from both sides this seemed the recipe for the day until Basildon’s Callum Ainslie picked up loose ball in open play and weaved through the Southend defence before off loading to Kyle Mclaughlin to score under the posts.
Callum Ainslie then converted for the extra two points.
Southend didn't drop their heads and scored from a poor Basildon clearing kick.
Nearing the half time whistle Basildon had a Scrum awarded to them in Southend twenty two, no 8 Luke Tee boon called a set play from which winger Paul Tucker scored in the corner.

Basildon forwards started the second half much better and with the bit between their teeth started going through the phases releasing clean ball for Kyle Mclaughlin to take his second try.
Southend forwards were tiring and with their backs seeing little ball the game started to open up and flanker Tom Barnet took full advantage making two power full runs scoring two more tries make his hat trick and also earn himself the title of forward of the day .

Back of the day went to full back Danniel stains who had his best game to date with some great catches and attacking runs from Southends high balls.
With Jon-Luke Jousiffe injured Chris Gurney stepped up to the plate and did an excellent job leading the pack.
New signing Bradley Holder was impressive in his debut game for Basildon.
