A tough competitive game played in a good spirit.
Batley came across a new side to the division on Saturday, Lindley Swift. An 18 strong squad meant they had plenty of substitutes and in all honesty it proved valuable for them on the day, In heavy conditions it took Batley a few sets to get into the pace of the game, but when they did they were able to dominate in large parts. Max Clark has really found his tackling form and was rewarded with the Magic Moment for his fantastic chase down tackles. In a game filled with hard tackles and good breaks from both teams Lily Clark fully deserved her Most Improved trophy. Morgan Fowler Cox, Shane Gaunt, Harrison Headley, Cole Innes, Harry Holmes Pearson, Tom Rhodes, Emma Manning, Peter Lerums and Joe Scott all played their part in an entertaining first encounter between the teams. Captain for the day Lucas Tomlinson, once again controlled the game and put his body on the line to receive the top tackler award. Liam Metcalf showed huge determination and fitness to collect the parents Player of The Day award. In truth a 12 – 34 score line didn’t reflect the steely, determined, never give up attitude of the Batley side. Well done everyone, we are all very proud with how you are playing and, more importantly enjoying the games as a true team. Remember training on Weds and Friday on Taylor Street 5.30 – 6.30, bring your boots!
