Under 11's - Match centre

Batley Boys
Sat 12 May 11:30 - League

What a day, what a team, what a win!

After a 2 week break from game play, Saturday saw Batley Boys under 11’s take on Whinmoor Warriors at home. Some intense training recently had taken Batley back to basics in many areas of the game, and this needed to be taken on to the pitch. A rousing pre match talk from co-coach Dan Winner seemed to rally the Batley team and there was a determination in the players for all to see.

From the outset Batley were hungry for the challenge and some strong attacking and tight defence put Batley on top. Parents player of the day Max Clark scored a brilliant hat trick of tries and was also rewarded with the opposition player of the day award. Captain Liam Metcalf was inspirational again and scored a further try for Batley. Strong running prop Cole Innes converted twice. Lucas Tomlinson’s sublime passing and game play landed him the magic moment award and a barnstorming performance saw Tom Rhodes collect the top tackler prize. Deservedly the whole team were awarded most improved with Joe Scott collecting the trophy. Lily Clark, Shane Gaunt, Harrison Headley, Peter Lerums, Emma Manning, Harry Holmes-Pearson and debutant Jake Farrell all made their mark in a truly hard fought victory. Special mention here also to Morgan Fowler-Cox, who couldn’t be there on the day due to illness.

Whinmoor are a very good side, with plenty of power and pace, but in all truth Batley were too strong, disciplined and organised for them on the day. This team has always had the ability, this win will now give them the belief. Many congratulations on the victory Batley, you have waited some time for it, and I think you know how proud we all are of you.
