Saturday morning, bright sunshine, a few fluffy clouds on the horizon. That smell of Vicky's fresh crispy bacon sandwiches wafting across the pitches from the clubhouse. Mums and Dads watching their little Rolando's or their Kelly Smith's from the touch line, applauding every drag back or Cruyff turn.
Then across on the Walking Football pitch, Lloyd Buckle (triple heart bypass) makes a great diving save from the ever young John Windsor (quadruple heart bypass), Lloyd picks himself up and rolls the ball out to big Dave Pawson (65 yrs) and with his quick feet and troublesome knee outmaneuvers the ball past the on coming Paul MacDonald (64 yrs), with his head up Dave finds the perfect through ball to the feet of Colin Beattie (75 yrs) out on the right wing and through on goal, Colin walks towards the goal his grey hair floppy in the wind, sucking in the air through his own teeth, one step, two steps, then a little stutter, drops his shoulder to bring out the keeper and then shoots with his old but trusty right foot..... GOAL! Colin's first in 43 years... and it meant the world to him.
WALKING FOOTBALL... Its never too late to live your dreams.
